Bengal stripe cotton carries a history far older and more complex than the systems that eventually adopted it. originating in the Bengal region (present day Bangladesh and parts of India), it was prevalent in trade routes before it was repackaged as a uniform of Western professionalism and the colonially rooted corporate agenda.

this shirt starts with that contradiction.

the Sanskrit script across the chest reads “selfless love;” a language that was historically not inclusive to everyone on a garment that is. It borrows the visual language of the graphic tee and the branded garment, repackages it again. asks something different of it. not clout, status, or affiliation. a reminder that unifies us outside of it all. love & kindness are free. the embroidery on the cuff is hand stitched. The print is done by handcarved linoleum blocks.
